ATHLETICS

At STARS Academy School, we believe that athletics play a vital role in the development of our students both physically and mentally. Our athletic program is designed to provide a challenging, yet supportive, environment that promotes the pursuit of excellence in sports and life. Our philosophy is centered around four key pillars:

  • Character Development - We believe that athletics are a powerful tool for building character. We expect our student-athletes to demonstrate respect, responsibility, honesty, and sportsmanship both on and off the field.

  • Academic Excellence - We believe that academic success and athletic success go hand in hand. We expect our student-athletes to maintain high standards in the classroom and to prioritize their academic responsibilities.

  • Competitive Spirit - We believe that competition is an important part of athletics. We encourage our student-athletes to strive for excellence in their sport, to set challenging goals, and to work tirelessly to achieve them.

  • Inclusivity and Diversity - We believe that athletics are for everyone. We strive to create an inclusive and diverse athletic program that welcomes all students, regardless of their background, gender, race, or ability.

Through these four pillars, our athletic program seeks to develop well-rounded student-athletes who are prepared for success both on and off the field. We believe that our athletes have the potential to achieve great things, and we are committed to providing them with the support and resources they need to reach their full potential.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION CURRICULUM
Physical Education – the process of learning through movement – is a vital part of the total education of each individual at STARS Academy. Our Physical Education program teaches physical education through movement and dance. Students participate in 125 minutes of structured physical education activities each week. STARS Academy’s Physical Education program focuses on wellness while developing each student’s fitness including musculoskeletal strength, coordination and flexibility, and cardiovascular health. Instruction and participation in a variety of performance movement experiences enable the student to assess his/her own capabilities as well as stimulate self-discipline and develop healthy living habits. By providing choice in our physical education curriculum, we find that students are more motivated to move and participate, which is the goal. Through carefully designed learning experiences students develop refined physical coordination, a keen sense of musicality, acute spatial awareness, a heightened awareness of the body and its movement through space and time, and improved mental and physical strength stability and flexibility.

FLAG FOOTBALL

Our school offers an exciting co-ed flag football team for ages 11-14, providing a fantastic sporting experience. Flag football is a thrilling and accessible sport for several reasons:

  1. Skill Development: It offers an opportunity for students to develop important athletic and teamwork skills, such as agility, coordination, communication, and strategic thinking.

  2. Safety: Flag football is a non-contact sport, reducing the risk of injuries commonly associated with traditional football, making it a safer option for students.

  3. Fun and Social: The game is a lot of fun and promotes social interaction among participants. It's a great way for students to make friends and build lasting memories.

  4. Healthy Lifestyle: Playing flag football encourages physical activity and promotes a healthy lifestyle, which is important for the overall well-being of our students.

  5. Competition: Our team competes against other local schools, adding an element of competition that fosters sportsmanship and a sense of school pride.
